The decision to defer the New Mandovi Bridge repair work due to the ongoing SSC examination is a wise decision. It will benefit parents and students travelling from Mapusa to Panaji. As it is mandatory for students to reach the exam centres on time, if they arrive late during the examination, they will not get enough time to answer, or they will not be permitted beyond a particular time. The closure of the Mandovi Bridge, which was planned, has been deferred until further notice.
However, while this decision benefits students in the short term, it is also important for the government to reschedule the maintenance work promptly once the exams conclude. The safety and durability of such a vital infrastructure project should not be compromised for too long. A well-communicated plan for the repair work, along with alternative traffic arrangements, will help minimise future inconveniences to daily commuters.
