On various occasions, streetlight fixtures along the Adpai jetty in Ponda have been found non-functional during the night. Hence commuters travelling via Adpai ferry have been facing inconvenience in the process. Pedestrians tend to be the worst sufferers in the process. Women walking home from the Adpai jetty towards the main road face great risk due to the existing darkness from time to time. As on Saturday June 4 at 6:15 am three fixtures were noticed in a non-working condition. Further, one fixture was found missing from the concerned electricity pole. Since linesmen of the electricity department work under the village panchayats, it is time for the VP of Adpai-Durbhat to get the non-working fixtures duly repaired on immediate basis. By the way, streetlight fixtures at the Durbhat Bazaar (also in Ponda) have been recently noticed in a functional condition as late as 2:30 pm in the afternoon. Perhaps the same are not being switched off in the morning. As a result, a considerable quantity of the much precious power supply gets wasted in the process. It is absolutely necessary that the available power supply is utilised in the best possible manner and not wasted at any instance. Let us hope that the senior officials at the electricity department would take a note of above two matters and do the needful at the earliest before the existing situation turns from bad to worse.
