This is with reference to editorial titled, "Vehicle scrapping policy ill-thought, counterproductive, - The Goan Everyday June 26, 2023." That was an informative editorial and a good analysis on the vehicle scrapping policy of the government. The authorities seem to be taking steps in order to reduce pollution and protect the environment. As your editorial states, if the government really cares about the environment, what it should really be doing is promote the use of public transport, which is the best thing the State can do in terms of both environment and reducing the density of traffic which means lesser accidents and other problems. The authorities need to also review their push for electric vehicles in the light of electric vehicles catching fire; several such instances have occurred in Mumbai. And of course, we need to stop destruction of forest cover. Your editorial rightly suggests that the state government, and perhaps other state governments too, rethink its policy from a holistic perspective rather blindly follow other states' policies. The people’s interests ought to be at the heart of all such policies.
