With the untimely but expected death of Bon Scott, manypeople thought (and fans shuddered) that AC/DC was over. After his death, thiswas the band’s first offering. Needless to say, through the album, they kepttheir legacy of Hard Rock alive. It is one of the finest works till date, andthe total 20 million people that bought the album since its release aretestimony to that. Having been positioned at 73 on Rolling Stones top 500 albumlist speaks volumes in terms of its success.
‘Hell's Bells’ is an excellent start to the album, startingwith the ringing bell and an unforgettable riff by guitarist Angus Young. Thissong adds so much intensity to the start of the album which does not die outtill the very end. ‘Shoot to Thrill’ is another great song, probably why it waschosen for the soundtrack of Iron Man. It is a great follow up to Hells Bells.Offers a great solo which goes into a minute long bridge, and back into anothercrazy solo, which is when the song ends. What else could you ask for fromAC/DC? Which brings us to ‘Back in Black’. If you have not heard this one, youhave never heard AC/DC. Great riff, lyrics. Everything all around could not bebetter. Moving further down the track list, one arrives at ‘You Shook Me All NightLong’. Starting off with a very catchy intro, the song moves into naturaldistorted chords into the riff, which flows very well with the drums. And as ifthe song was not good enough, the second guitar comes in and it takes off fromthere. An all-round great song that could arguably be the best one on thealbum. Until you listen to ‘Back in Black’ or ‘Hell’s Bells’ again.
All in all, this album undoubtedly gets full marks, andshould be a part of everybody’s collection. If you do not own it, buy it (do notdownload it). Not having this record is a potential crime in itself.
