Unite to defend your rights

Goans are witnessing the ongoing protests in Velsao against Rail Vikas Nigam Limited’s double-tracking project. Villagers allege that the project has blocked their only traditional motorable access road, threatened heritage homes, and proceeded despite unresolved concerns over land acquisition and survey procedures.

Protesters contend that RVNL lacks the legal basis to continue the work. They argue that although district authorities directed the company to submit land records and conduct a joint survey, these instructions have not been implemented, yet construction continues with police protection under the State government.

The protesters urge the judiciary to intervene and ensure that all legal requirements are followed. The situation is a serious setback to democratic governance and the rule of law, and if such actions continue unchecked in Velsao, similar disputes could arise elsewhere in Goa. It is time for Goans to unite in defending their rights and protecting their communities.
