MARGAO
A hat-trick by Showin Carvalho powered Paldem Sports Club to a 3-2 victory over Cumborda Sports Club and a place in the semifinals of the 3rd Caniza Peixoto Memorial 9-a-side Football Tournament organised by Black Arrow Boys Agxem at St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim.
Played in wet conditions, both teams struggled to control the ball on the slippery surface. Paldem took an early lead through Showin in the fifth minute before Alzino equalised for Cumborda in the 19th minute. Showin restored Paldem's advantage in the 23rd minute and completed his hat-trick four minutes later to give his side a 3-1 lead at the break.
After the change of ends, Cumborda adopted an attacking approach and reduced the deficit through Rio in the 37th minute. Marcus, Allwin and Roy pressed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Paldem held firm to secure the win. Showin Carvalho was named Man of the Match and received the award from club member Savio Peixoto.

Pitu Brothers win Harlington Boys Cup
MARGAO: Pitu Brothers emerged champions of the Harlington Boys Cup 2026 4-a-side Football Tournament after defeating Xavier Brothers in the final. Gladson was adjudged Best Defender of the tournament, while Alton and Xavier shared the Highest Goal Scorer award. The winners' and runners-up trophies were presented after the final.

Married team triumph in Sao Joao clash
MARGAO: The Married team defeated the Bachelors in a tie-breaker after an entertaining 2-2 draw in the traditional Sao Joao football match held at the St John the Baptist Panchayat Ground. The annual fixture, organised as part of the Sao Joao festivities, drew enthusiastic participation from villagers and football lovers.
The Bachelors took the lead through Haston after good work by Claudsen, but Luis Menino restored parity for the Married team before half-time. The Bachelors enjoyed more possession in the second half, but Alex put the Married side ahead with a powerful strike. Claudy then produced a fine solo effort to level the scores at 2-2 and force a tie-breaker. The Married team kept their composure from the spot to clinch the trophy.
Chief guest and sponsor Warren Alemao presented the winners' trophy and praised the organisers for preserving the unique Sao Joao football tradition.

Goan skater wins gold, bronze in Maldives
MARGAO: Young Goan skater Divya Chaudhary won two medals at the International Speed Roller Skating Championship held in the Maldives from June 18 to 21. An Under-14 trainee of coach Rajesh B Naik at the Sports Authority of Goa, Fatorda, Divya won gold in the Marathon Race and bronze in the 400m Race in the inline speed roller skating category.

United Club of Verna AGM on July 19
MARGAO: United Club of Verna will hold its Annual General Body Meeting on July 19 at 10 am at the Verna Panchayat Hall.
