The crisis in the Congress, which got accentuated with Rahul Gandhi’s resignation, presents the grand old party another opportunity to re-define itself and in the process re-organise the ideological space of the Indian party system.
The Congress today has lost contact with the Hindu clergy. They go to Hindu clergy only during the time of elections.
Congress has adopted a habit of going back to the Great Family again and again over a generation now. Neither the party can live without the Family nor can the Family live without the party.
Both exist dependent on each other and both with live and diminish together. Too much time taken by the Congress in finding a successor of Rahul only indicates the dilemma of giving the sufficient time to the Family to reconcile and come back.
Better sense should prevail so that the grand old party survives the present crisis.
