Use RTI Act to make an impact

The Goa State Information Commission has failed to create the much needed awareness on the Right to Information Act across the State and especially in the rural areas.

The RTI Act is a very powerful tool in exposing corruption, nepotism and acts of bad governance at all levels of government.

Unless the implementation of the RTI Act is further strengthened, good governance, transparency in administration and zero tolerance to corruption will never be truly a reality.

Some bureaucrats are conditioned to conceal and not to reveal information. But the 'good' bureaucrats, who have nothing to hide, and thus, nothing to fear, are complying with the transparency law in letter and spirit.

The RTI Act must be used by every individual to make an impact and bring about change in the attainment of economic, social and political rights of an individual as well as the community at large.

It would be nice if our two law colleges could organize periodical RTI camps across Goa to assist people in filing their applications thus giving the common man a feeling of participation.  We all have to be ardent users of the RTI Act.
