With reference to the editorial "20+5..........-- The Goan Everyday. March 23,2022," we need to understand the meaning of governance and good governance at that. Good governance is not about having numbers on the side of the ruling party. The editorial rightly states, what we need is a strong opposition for, what is democracy without an opposition. So, it's time the ruling party stops this game of poaching legislators from the opposition parties in order to boost their numbers, thereby gaining a brute majority in the Assembly or in Parliament.
Of course in recent times, the power hungry opposition legislators have sadly fallen for the bait offered by the other side, making a mockery of the democratic process. Enough damage has already been done. So, now that the ruling in Goa, have sufficient numbers presently, 20+5, can we expect a functional democracy with the opposition acting at a watchguard of the citizens in general?
