On the day of the swearing-in of the new BJP government (March 28), all-India trade unions called for a strike that extended till March 29. The BJP must have been well aware of the strike call, but in spite of that decided to usher in a celebratory function of bringing in a new government on this day. Not only that the Assembly election results were declared on March 10 and this time the BJP took 18 days to swear in a government while after the last election it wasted no time in cobbling up the numbers. Surely they could have avoided March 28 for the swearing-in. One, therefore, is unable to understand the thinking of the BJP who by its action is indicating their frivolous and crass attitude towards governance by ignoring the serious matter of a strike. One is reminded of Nero fiddling while Rome burned and we have the BJP and Modi and his cronies here in a celebratory mood while a crisis is enveloping the country.
