Yet again Goa failed in tackling covid: this time the 3rd wave. In January 2022 alone, Goa lost 142 lives! Why? State immunologist Dr Borkar said 52 % of deaths in the 3rd wave were of non or partially-vaccinated people and attributed the deaths to this. However, the fact remains that Goa failed to get the genome sequencing equipment and hence were unable to establish which variant was prevalent in Goa: delta or Omicron. And they committed the major blunder of propagating the false facts that only Omicron was dominant in Goa with mild symptoms and zero deaths. This forced people to believe this and seek hospitalisation when too late. This is established from the fact that people died within 24 hours of admission.
