Today, the new BJP government is being sworn-in in Goa. Considering the fact that this government is a minority government as far as the percentage votes are concerned, the Prime Minister and top Central leaders must respect the mandate of the people and scrap the three linear infra projects cutting through Goa’s forests. If Narendra Modi is a lover of nature, he should make an assurance to the people of Goa.
The BJP managed to garner only 33 per cent of the voter percentage and thus it is not right for it to give consent to the felling of 77,000 trees in Mollem after the Mopa airport has already led to 54,000 trees having gone under the axe of the lumberjack. Also, the rivers of Goa have to be protected and their nationalization should be not implemented. Also, the BJP has to decisively demolish the illegal structure that is coming up at Old Goa, which is a world heritage area protected by UNESCO. Let the mandate of the Goan people not be compromised but on the other hand respected.
