A decimated Congress fighting for survival

The decimated Congress party in Goa has reached a stage, reminiscent of the age-old nursery rhyme 'Humpty Dumpty' and his great fall, when "neither the king's horses nor the king's men could set up Humpty back again."  This is the tragic story of  the inexorable downslide of the Congress party  which began after the lethal blow was struck in 2017, with the failure of the Congress to form the govt in Goa, despite being in a majority. Then followed 2 more disasters with the defection of 10 Congress MLAs in 2019, and the recent 8 more defections to the BJP. The situation at the national level is far from better with the party struggling to find a messiah-like  replacement for the Gandhis as national president, to resurrect the beleaguered party from the ashes. The 'Bharat Jodo' padyatra spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi is also turning out to be a damp squib as the party has lost the faith and trust of the people, after being back-stabbed time and again. The credibility of the Congress party being at an all time low, there is  therefore little chance of the party's aspirations  and hopes of coming to power again or even heading the 'mahaghatbandhan' of opposition parties for the grand slam in 2024. Much less in Goa.

The busy Chimbel junction along the Panaji-Old Goa bypass road has turned into a death trap for unsuspecting motorists. The vehicular traffic coming out of the Chimbel road needs to be overcautious. It…
