Abandoning newborns: NGOs need to address issue

Recently, Goa witnessed another case of a newborn being abandoned -- the 8th case. This inhuman trend must be arrested.

Two such incidents back, an NGO had written a letter in these columns saying they are ready and in fact already look after such children.

Such NGOs can approach the Industrial Associations at each Industrial Estate and share their pamphlet. In turn, the associations can instruct all units to display copies and also provide a talk on the same to all the workers.

Similarly, panchayats can also be instructed to announce the same to all those with domestic helps or those renting out rooms.

The problem is while parents work at these industrial estates, the minors are at home with no protection.

Is it not better to insist that one parent must remain home in case they have unattended minors? Or that the employers must provide a place/creche for them?

That is why social sciences root for setting up industries in all villages and restrict migration to towns. Not Goa. Wither GHRC?
