Accountability for Shirgao deaths remains unfixed

A year has passed since the tragic incident of deaths at the zatra of Shree Devi Lairai  at Shirgao. This year's zatra saw a meticulous preparation led by the Collector of North Goa and supervised by the Chief Minister who remained personally present for the mock drill. While this year's arrangements are laudable, it makes me wonder whether the accountability for deaths last year would ever be fixed. The IAS and IPS officers have since been transferred out of Goa and are beyond any threat as they were left scot free. As far as the Goa Civil and police officers are concerned, some of them are promoted and all continue to hold lofty positions in government. When will the accountability for the Shirgao deaths of 2025 be fixed?
