I wish to draw attention to the recent incidents of drowning reported in Goa. These unfortunate tragedies have deeply saddened the community and raised concerns about safety. However, it is important to address an often overlooked aspect of such incidents ” the role of parental supervision. In many cases, children gaining unsupervised access to beaches, rivers, or other water bodies significantly increases the risk of such mishaps. While it is easy to attribute blame to authorities, we must also acknowledge that parents and guardians bear a primary responsibility to closely monitor their children's activities and ensure their safety. Proper guidance, awareness, and vigilance at home can go a long way in preventing such tragedies. Children should be educated about the dangers of venturing into unsafe areas without adult supervision. Simple precautions, such as accompanying children to beaches or ensuring they are in safe environments, can make a critical difference. This is not to undermine the importance of public safety measures, but rather to emphasize that prevention begins at home. I hope this perspective encourages greater awareness and proactive action within families to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
