Act against tourist vehicles with 'police' signboards

A video that has gone viral on social media shows locals questioning a car with a registration number of another state displaying a “Police” signboard. When questioned, the tourists could not prove that they were indeed policemen. There have been several such instances in the past when visitors, who are not policemen, were apprehended for driving their vehicle with a “Police” signboard displayed on the windshield. This is a very serious offence. They could be civilians impersonating as police. This modus operandi could even be used by anti-social elements entering the state as tourists in order to avoid suspicion. Such a signboard could however be allowed when cops from other states are on official duty. The Goa Police need to check at the border every vehicle coming from another state with such a signboard. Incidentally Goa has reportedly become the first state in India to introduce a QR code system for tourists travelling with vehicles. When tourists enter Goa with their vehicles, traffic police check their documents. Once verified, a QR code is generated, which remains valid for 12 hours.
