Apropos to the news item “Burglar prays at temple, then steals from donation box” (The Goan Everyday 17-02-2022). Facts are stranger than fiction. The entire episode is captured on the security camera installed inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Khapreshwar Temple.
What does this act of offering prayers “ an act of faith “ before proceeding to steal the cash “ an act of heinous crime “ indicate? The thief is playing a clever game here. He is praying to the Lord Khapreshwar for his mission to be successful. Ironically, the mission is to steal the donation money from the house of the prayed. Why not strike while the iron is hot? Pray for the success of the mission. And, ask for forgiveness of the sin about to be committed. One wonders whether the thief was aware of the camera watching him and recording his shenanigans. We live in a truly digital world where crimes are getting recorded in real time. What a masterstroke!
