There has been a huge hue and cry by lawyers over the recent assault on one of their colleagues. The Goa Police once again have shown their indiscipline and abuse of powers. The police have to be reminded that they are the keepers of law and order -- not above law and order.
The media too has given unprecedented coverage to this incident. Congratulations to the lawyers and the media. I would request the lawyers and their associations to also vociferously fight and demand justice, when a common man faces a similar situation, and not only when one of their colleagues has to face the barrage of the cops.
Sadly this is not the reality “ at least in Goa. In fact, it is some from this same fraternity that abuse the common man -- not physically, but legally -- and that too in connivance with the police who have right now turned out to be their enemy.
Prominent lawyers who double up as writers should also voice their opinions and opposition to the harassment and abuse that some from their fraternity, show no remorse or sensitivity towards the common man while raking in “rokda” by being hand in glove with the abusers.
Our betterment lies in the sincerity of these two professions -- unfortunately.
