As the onset of South West monsoon flooding in Goa with greater force is expected just like last year, all eyes must be focused on how smart city of Panaji is prepared to tackle flooding with new drains and a new sewerage system along many streets in Panaji. On July 23 morning, despite there being a dry spell, the Patto area where most of the offices and other commercial establishments are located, at high tide due to the ingress of water from the Ourem creek flooded the area, and the flooding receded only after four hours. Imagine a situation when there is a downpour exactly at the time of high tide during which the water from Mandovi is back flushed along the banks, flooding will definitely be a huge issue.
