Of late it has come to our notice that politicians from the northern coastal belt of our state are putting undue pressure on the men in uniform to go slow on challaning the tourists on rental bikes and cars which is very disturbing. If this is the case the RTO will have to apply two sets of rules, one for the tourists and the other for the general public. If one sees the accident statistics most of the accidents are caused by tourists driving rental bikes and cars. These tourists do not know Goa's road topography and conditions. Nowadays with private cars also given to the tourists on rental basis it will be very difficult for the cops to differentiate as to who is a tourist/local. The rules should be the same for all. Some of these politicians who own restaurants/hotels want to pamper their guests, risking the lives of law abiding locals. Most of the accidents that have taken place of late are due to drunken driving and rash and negligent driving by tourists. This behaviour is unacceptable and the police should show no mercy to the culprits.
