The Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently stated that some south Indian states and political parties even today do not show interest in speaking or understanding Hindi, He said that while we promote the state [official] language Konkani, it is important to know Hindi as well. As usual the CM appears to make statements to appease his "masters" at the Centre/North India, which I think is for more political bonus points' I have nothing against Hindi and speak it to some extent as it is an important language. Charity begins at home and the Chief Minister must also remember that one of his top priorities is to ensure the Konkani language grows in Goa.. at the moment he and his Govt do more lip service than actual real action. It is my view that recognising Romi (in addition to Devanagari) will strengthen the Konkani language. Also the Goa Ministers must not forget that the main parts of Goa demanding Romi Konkani now were the main force behind the Konkani movement in the 1980s. It's only fair to recognise that fact by including the Romi Script in the Official Language Act.
