Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday reportedly said that the leakage in the pipeline of the petroleum company at Matvem-Dabolim has been identified and the situation is being monitored by the South Goa Collector and the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB).
It is learnt that multiple points along the petroleum pipeline in Vasco were identified as probable leakage points by the Belgian Malinois dog ‘Urus’ engaged by the petroleum company which began excavating these points. It must be said due to the leakage of the petroleum product, Vasco was literally sitting on a time bomb and if not for the dog 'Urus', it would have been almost impossible to find the leakage points in the 14-km long pipeline.
It is not for nothing that a dog is said to be man’s best friend. After conducting cognitive tests on more than 1,000 specimens from 13 dog breeds that are known for their intellectual prowess, researchers at the University of Helsinki in Finland reportedly determined that the Belgian Malinois is the smartest dog breed of all.
It would be in the fitness of things for the Goa government through the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services to award the wonder dog Urus for the service rendered to the general public in detecting the leakage points in time, thereby preventing a major disaster in the State.
