Our country is again in the midst of the virus with cases of Covid-19 in the form of Omicron variant skyrocketing by the day.
Going by reports made available by scientists, even the vaccination regimen undertaken by our huge population can’t shield it against the Omicron variant and also possible future virus attacks because of the unexpected mutations of the virus.
In this scenario, it is people’s responsibility to maintain calm and follow Covid-appropriate behaviour at all times. The Government and NGOs must step up awareness programmes regarding the aftermath of the virus attacks, which can lower the spurt in the number of cases.
The citizens, especially the lower middle class, should be educated about the viruses. Besides, daily wage earners and roadside vendors, among others, should be given reasonable financial assistance by the Governments in the form of soft loans to make their ends meet.
Since prevention is better than cure, proper awareness and assistance would be a powerful weapon against the dreaded viruses; otherwise the ever-increasing caseloads could strain even a ramped up healthcare system.
