Bail to Vagator accident accused shows law doesn't take its course

The accused driver, who was arrested for recklessly driving his SUV and killing a woman, an owner of a resort on the spot at Vagator, has been finally given bail by the High Court on a surety bond of just Rs 50,000.

Well, it should be noted that the arrested driver in his bail application had claimed (of course, at the behest of his lawyer) that the reason why he was found dozing behind the steering wheel of his vehicle at the time of the accident is that he was undergoing some water fasting therapy and which he had started just around five to six days before the day of the accident.

If he was really undergoing some therapy and not feeling too well at the time of the accident, why he was at the wheel, driving his vehicle? Didn't he knowingly commit a crime by deliberately driving his vehicle dangerously and killing the lady?

This particular verdict of the High Court must have disappointed many people in Goa. And why not? This unfortunate verdict clearly goes on to show that the law just does not take its own course in certain cases, especially when it comes to high-profile people in Goa. If a rich person is involved in a very serious crime, then he is still allowed to easily walk out on bail. But if a poor person, even if innocent, is still made to undeservedly rot in jail.
