While the common man is being crushed under the burden of soaring power bills and asked to conserve electricity, the electricity department itself is wasting precious power by not regulating the switching on and switching off of streetlights.
Benaulim sees a lot of LED lights burning bright even at 9 in the morning. Why can't the department adopt sensor-based fixtures which light up and turn off based on ambient light conditions? This will not only check wastage but also be an environment-friendly measure. The electricity department should retrofit all streetlights with photosensors.
