The famed Colva Fama is to be celebrated on October 17 this year. This great tradition is still continuing with great fervor for about 375 years and is attended yearly by thousands of people.
Besides the religious ceremonies including its prominent highlights, there are understandable commercial stalls that are set up temporarily in the vicinity which is part of this great day.
However, in the recent past (barring the Covid years), it was observed that after the Colva Fama, the entire area was extremely littered with rubbish, plastic, dirt etc and looked very filthy to say the least; not to mention also creating health hazard by burning of waste and water pollution!
I think all this goes against the good principles of celebrating such a great religious event if we can't respect the same with cleanliness and a sense of proper responsibility.
Can Colvenkars including the concerned planning authorities, health and related govt departments etc take some initiative this year to have a clean and decent Fama? Can we avoid or ban some things like plastics completely from being distributed from the stalls?
Let us celebrate Colva Fama in the right spirit and keep Colva clean.
