Despite crores spent on collection, garbage finds its way along Margao roads, rail tracks - The Goan Everyday - July 27, 2024. Garbage management as stated earlier is indeed a mammoth task whether it is in Goa or Mumbai or elsewhere. Yes, it may seem strange that despite crores spent on collection, garbage finds its way along Margao roads, rail tracks. Waste piled up at several street corners or near railway tracks is a common sight even in Mumbai.
Understandably, civic authorities are at a loss to understand this situation. Mostly one would think it is the uneducated, illiterate sections of people or slums who will indulge in such acts but sadly, it seems even seemingly educated people commit such acts whether it is throwing waste at street corners or throwing away a bus ticket in the air the moment they alight from the bus.
One thing one can conclude is that basic civic sense is absolutely lacking in the citizens of our country. Unless, citizens follow basic civic sense, garbage management is going to remain a daunting task. It is a ‘Two-way’ street. The other option is, ‘cracking the whip’ wherever possible.
