In a few days’ time Goans will be celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi. Many will be proceeding to their native village to celebrate the festival with family members. Hence their flats or houses in the cities would be closed for some days. This is when thieves become active as they take advantage of the absence of the house owners. In the past there have been several house-breaking incidents that have been reported during the Ganesh Chaturthi holidays. Hence it is absolutely necessary to increase the number of police posted for patrol duty in order to avoid any untoward incident during the week-long festival. Quick Response Teams need to be deployed at vulnerable places. As has been done in the past, the police department needs to issue a security advisory thereby advising the public to inform the police station if they are going on long leave during the festival. Regular patrolling, especially at night, needs to be carried out around houses that have been closed for several days during the festive season. Those living in the neighbourhood need to keep a watch on such houses where the owners have gone to their native village to celebrate the festival.
