Goa has become a haven for beggars from neighbouring states and the government seems to have closed its eyes to this menace. Previously one used to see beggars and squatters only at the railway stations and in city parks but now they have penetrated to the coastal villages too. One can see many vagrants on the road to Benaulim beach, the cafe entrances, the parking area and on the beach itself. Most of them are aggressive hustlers and demand money as if it is their birthright. Some of them are alcoholics, pass lewd comments on passing women, and a veritable danger to society. Whatever happened to the much tom-tommed anti beggary laws and beggars homes ? I appeal to the government to take immediate action.
