The area around the Benaulim Panchayat Ghar has become a grazing ground for cattle, with the authorities least bothered about the menace. One sees cows and buffaloes roaming all over the place, feasting on the lush grass.
They merrily soil the roads and are a danger to people coming to conduct business at the panchayat building, post office and the milk outlet; besides, they pose a hazard to vehicular traffic, especially at night.
The authorities should seize the cattle and penalise the owners, or else send them to abattoirs. Benaulim, a VIP constituency and once the queen of South Goa villages, is now famous for broken roads, non-functional street lights, stray cattle, dogs, beggars, petty crime and the like. What a fall from grace.
