Benaulim waste facility: A health hazard for public

A waste management facility has been built adjoining the Benaulim Panchayat Ghar at the rear, and segregated waste is piled both at the entrance and sides of the building. Trash is also scattered on the road leading to it. The place stinks to high heavens during the monsoons, and one sees all kinds of rodents, cats, and dogs feasting on the garbage during the night. Mosquitoes buzz around the place when there is water stagnation.

Hundreds of people come to the Panchayat Ghar every day for official business, payment of taxes, veterinary issues, and settlement of grievances. There are also three villas in the vicinity.

Is it not criminal on the government's part to expose the public to the menace of disease day in, day out? The waste facility should be immediately shifted to an isolated place away from human habitation.
