Bonus offer to Goa

Goa received a bonus 60th Liberation celebration grant from the Centre. We should be thankful for being doled out a teesra instead of a 100 crore as requested or even a doosra. Why bother with questioning the motives or suspecting intentions behind this. If a sinking boat, namely the Goan Economy, wins a lottery we should be glad for it. How to spend it best should be our goal. I went to sleep the other day thinking it would be great if Goa got a bailout from the Centre. Rs 100 crore seemed a meagre amount to payoff outstanding debts. Lo and behold it has transpired. Now, why not invest the entire amount in, for example, savings accounts. Even with an interest of 5 per cent generated from this it would amount to a sizable sum while retaining the principal amount. The interest generated from this can be used towards development. The accounts can be called as Goa 60th Liberation Fund.

Goa will receive Rs 300 crore from the Centre for celebrating Goa's 60th year of Liberation. If I was the Chief Minister, my focus would be on the long-term development of the State. The problems plaguing Goa are bad roads, erratic electric supply, traffic woes and joblessness. The funds could be utilised to build excellent quality roads, preferably cemented, to withstand severe rains.
