This refers to 'Twist to campus tragedy' (TGE, May 3). The death of a young 20-year-old student at BITS supposedly by suicide was indeed very unfortunate. According to the news report, there is also talk about suspected foul play involved. Whatever the case, a sincere, honest investigation must be carried out, and more importantly, corrective steps should be taken in order to prevent such incidents in the future, not just at BITS but at all other institutions in the country.
While on the subject of suicide, according to some news reports, it seems suicides are on the rise among medical students”undergraduates and postgraduates”in the country during recent years.
Apparently, the pressure seems to be too high in all such institutions. One would have to be really mentally tough in order to make it through. Perhaps, counselling could also help.
