October 10 was a historic day for the Catholic church as Carlo Acutis, a 15-year-old computer wizard who died of leukemia in 2006 moved a step closer to sainthood with his beatification in the town of Assisi in Italy.
He is known as the “Cyber apostle of the Eucharist”. Carlo Acutis is the youngest contemporary person to be beatified. Pope Francis declared him to be Venerable on July 5, 2018. Pope Francis also approved a miracle attributed to him which enabled Acutis to be beatified. The miracle was the healing of a 7-year-old Brazilian boy from a rare pancreatic disorder. He is already being called as the “patron saint of the internet”.
Acutis created a website to archive miracles and took care of websites for some local Catholic organizations. Carlo used the internet in service of the Gospel, to reach as many people as possible.
He was buried in Assisi at his own request, having become an admirer of St Francis of Assisi for his dedication to the poor. The beatification of Carlo Acutis left him just one miracle away from becoming the world's first millennial saint.
