CCTV footage of election booths have been destroyed when the very reason for those cameras recording the proceedings is to ensure transparency. And by transparency it is meant that all interested parties including the opposition should have access to that footage in case any portion or proceedings of the election process appears suspicious. The footage is to reassure everyone that everything was as it should be. The only reason to destroy that footage would then be that the ECI has reason to fear that displaying the footage would reveal something illegal or fraudulent. In fact an ECI which had stuck to the rules would want that footage to be preserved in order to clear its name. But the CEC knows that releasing the recordings in the public domain would only strengthen Rahul Gandhi's repeated claims about the election process being compromised. And what makes it worse is that this footage is being systematically destroyed after it was requested for by parties who are doubting the sanctity of the election process.
