Chinchinim PHC in dire need of expansion

The Primary Health Centre at Chinchinim was to be shifted from the current place due to space constraints. The property of Provedoria at Dandeavado was objected to by the residents fearing the spread of infectious diseases. Also, the approach road to the land-locked property was another hindrance. The PHC now serves villages of Varca, Orlim, Cavelossim, Sarzora, Assolna and Chinchinim. The addition of pathology facility, dentistry, ophthalmology and other services are extended in the cramped place. Due to central assistance, the medical officer has arranged standing, sitting space and facility to protect patients from rain and hot sun. Kudos to this medical officer who during his tenure nursed the centre well. There’s no place even for in-house meetings and homeopathy section is in the corridor and has a curtain as partition. All the extended facilities need additional space to accommodate the patients crowding the PHC. The local MLA and Health Minister are aware of the space constraints, but there is no will to do something about the current situation. There is a long-pending demand to provide a residential medical officer and also bed facilities in emergencies. Expansion is of the PHC is a necessity to take care of the congestion.
