With the number of dengue cases on the rise in Goa, health officials have advised people to cover their water storage containers to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes. It is a well-accepted fact that stagnant water serves as a potential breeding ground for mosquitoes, leading to the spread of dengue and other water-borne diseases.
It is, therefore, the duty of every village panchayat to carry out fogging and larvicide spraying in their respective wards on a war footing. In this connection, it is pertinent to mention that several stretches along the CHOGM road walkway (footpath) in Porvorim have been dug for sewerage works and not repaired, leaving many ditches and hollows where rainwater keeps accumulating over the days and lies stagnant.
It is surprising that the village panchayat of Pilerne has failed to take action to get these potential breeding grounds repaired and restored to their original state.
