At the Adpai and Durbhat jetties in Ponda, garbage by the roadside is a regular affair. The situation is unhygienic and endangers the lives of people. Several people proceed for work at Rassaim, Verna, Cortalim, Vasco and the neighbouring areas via the above two important jetties. However, the presence of garbage creates a negative image of this place in the minds of travellers. The village panchayat of Adpai-Durbhat as a competent authority has been undertaking cleanliness drives during the last several years. Still achieving cleanliness in this jurisdiction has become a difficult task. Seen in the picture is plastic garbage dumped near the Durbhat jetty. In fact, a visit by the local MLA Sudin Dhavalikar would hopefully yield positive result. Nevertheless, it is necessary for the VP of Adpai-Durbhat to take up this sensitive matter seriously and arrange immediate clearance of the garbage at these two jetties so that hygienic conditions are maintained. Let us hope that this VP would strive to keep its jurisdiction neat and tidy.
