Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has reportedly appealed to party workers not to segregate people based on caste/religion, as he warns that such actions could expose them to the influence of ‘Urban Naxals’ operating in Goa. These individuals are allegedly attempting to create divisions among people along caste and religious lines in the state.
Now, who is Sawant really trying to desperately refer to as ‘Urban Naxals’ in Goa? Social activists, NGOs, poor people currently protesting against road widening projects to protect their houses, and those fighting for electricity/regular water supply and proper roads in different parts of Goa? Or tribals who are fighting for notifying tribal areas in the State?
If Sawant believes that ‘Urban Naxalites’ are genuinely operating in the State today, why is he not openly naming and taking any action against them in Goa? I think that CM Sawant should advise the leaders of his own party to first stop marginalising minorities in the State. They should cease bringing potentially destructive projects that threaten the houses and agricultural lands of all poor people at the behest of central leaders. Only then should he start issuing his own senseless statements.
