Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's nod to handing over the Sonali Phogat's murder case to the CBI is without precedence and sends out wrong signals about the Goa Police. Normally investigations are taken over by the central agency when the state police are unable to do justice. In this instance all five accused have been arrested, the deceased's family has taken the body and there has been all-round praise for the quick action by local police. By bringing in the CBI just because a CM of another state in the ruling party's fold demands it paints the Goa Police in very poor light. With one fell swoop our CM who also handles the Home portfolio has brought into question the crime investigating abilities of the State police . The CM should clarify whether the State government will agree to the transfer of cases of all alleged murders wherein the family of the victim has sought a central probe, eg. Siddhi Naik's murder case. The CM needs a reminder that Goa is a full fledged state and not a Union Territory, he buckled when asked to bend by his political masters.
