Common man disgusted by soaring prices of onions

Once again the skyrocketing prices of onions have brought tears to the eyes of the common man. Infact, it seems there's no end to such shooting prices which make a hole in the pocket of the general public. What's the reason behind all this ? As mentioned in a section of media, the delay in the arrival of kharif onion crop has led to the exhaustion of the stored rabi onion crop, thus leading to hike in its prices. Furthermore, the onion prices vary from Rs 65 to 75 and even 80 in some of the States across India. In view of the current situation, the prices of onions might hit Rs 100, thus bringing disgust to the common man. It's quite alarming though, but needless to say as there's no accountability whatsoever, as to who's responsible for the mess. With no other alternative, the common man has to pay a high price, or expel onions from their menu, as was the case with tomatoes, a few months back. Will the government do something to safeguard the interest of the common man?
