There appears to be ample proof of irregularities by Sancoale Secretary Orville Vales who now has been suspended recently by the Goa government. However key questions still remain. Why did it need to be raised by opposition for the Govt to act? Which minister was protecting him so far? Is he just suspended now to calm the storm and when all noise dies down, will he be reinstated (as we have seen recently being done with some bureaucracy who have been proven to be guilty)? Will he be terminated as there is clear evidence of the same? Will his assets/wealth under his and relatives names be investigated for any irregularities? Will Panchayat secretaries of other village Panchayats now be investigated wherever complaints are made by citizens or, will the CM/Panchayat Minister look the other way and protect these allegedly corrupt officials ? I think it’s important for citizens to pursue the case and ensure his termination; even legally if the Govt tries to protect/reinstate him in the near future. This must set a precedent on how other corrupt secretaries have to be dealt with.
