Court burglary should serve as wake-up call on security

It seems that a sacred place like the court, where citizens seek justice, is not safe from burglars. The evidence room of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court at Altinho was reportedly burgled on Tuesday evening. This burglary may not only involve theft of valuables but can have far reaching consequences affecting litigants since the burglar targeted the evidence room where currency notes, gold ornaments and other valuables are stored as part of the evidence. According to the police it is a clear lapse on the part of the security team that was manning the premises. If the court can be burgled there is a big question mark on the safety of the homes of the common man. It only goes to show how brazen the thieves operating in the State have become.  Was the activity carried out only to rob the cash and the valuables or was the burglar planted in order to destroy important evidence in the various cases handled by the court, an act which can have widespread ramifications. This incident should serve as a wake-up call for the authorities concerned to enhance the security in the court premises.
