Scant regard has been shown to senior citizens in the new budget proposals. The standard deduction of Rs 50,000 to pensioners will only benefit pensioners who get more than Rs 7,00,000 per year. Most pensioners will not get any benefit from this concession. The only real concession of railway concession was withdrawn for senior citizens during the pandemic. The excuse given at that time was that the govt did not want senior citizens to travel and endanger themselves. The excuse is no longer valid and the concession should have been reinstated but it wasn't. Senior citizens must now be content with an 'atmanirmala' budget!
