Covid crisis: Archdiocese doing great service

Apropos to the two letters written by one (Fr) Michael Fernandes, from Batim that appeared in The Goan recently.

The thrust of his letters is that the Church is doing nothing in the present crisis situation.

The writer says that he is the Parish Priest of Batim. I know that, at present, Fr Ubaldo Fernandes is rendering pastoral and humanitarian care to the people of Batim.

Archbishop and the Archdiocese of Goa has taken several initiatives to help the sick, the home-bound, the lonely, the migrants and the poor, during this pandemic, be it during the first outbreak in March 2020 as also now, during the second wave.

The Archdiocese has opened a gratis Covid Care Centre at the St. Joseph Vaz Spiritual Renewal Centre (Old Goa), apart from several other parishes and religious institutes which have done the same.

Many parishes, under the guidance of Caritas-Goa, have already begun full-swing action through their "Covid Care Teams" to provide succour in whatever way then can to the people, irrespective of creed or status.

It looks like (Fr.) Michael is out of tune with the functioning of the Church in Goa.
