Goa has finally blinked banning gatherings above 50. But the government has not controlled the source from where the virus enters -- the borders. A thorough check should be done like mandatory tests and nasal analysis and a Covid negative certificate for all those entering the State.
However, banning public gatherings and capping the crowds upto 50 is too little too late. Some people have either waited for over a year or postponed weddings to finally end up in these severe restrictions of curtailing crowd capacity.
People would want all their friends and near and dear ones to be present on these auspicious occasions. Many have booked wedding halls, bands, caterers almost a year in advance and these bookings can't be trimmed down at the last minute.
Covid has put a dampener on these events again this year. All allied businesses will severely be affected. Tourism is in doldrums, hotels are lying vacant so also are the taximen who are protesting.
In such situations government should come forward and give a helping hand in whichever way possible.
