Crimes against women must come to an end

The Hathras horror where a 19-year-old Dalit girl was gang-raped and left to die is very heartbreaking. The family of the victim has been denied even the last glance on their daughter's body.

Nowadays police are in news for wrong reasons, either they are involved in covering up the cases or are themselves destroying evidence in brutal murders.

Goa is no different. A one-year-old girl's body was found washed ashore at Siridao beach. It has been ten days since police are in possession of the body but are yet to find her parents.

On October 2 it was reported that a man killed his daughter with cricket stump.

This indicates that there are a lot of crimes against women in our State. The Constitution of India, has guaranteed to protect the rights of every citizen, irrespective of caste, creed or race. Are these fundamental rights supposed to be only on paper or will they ever be put into practice? When will woman feel safe in our country?

In several cases investigation agencies and competent authorities have failed in delivering timely justice and have failed to protect the life, dignity and liberty of women.

Every life matters, and we have the right to raise our voices today, for a better tomorrow.
