All candidates speak about development. Even the 10+2 spoke of development. The word has many connotations and hence is used loosely by aspiring/sitting candidates to fool voters.
Roads, with potholes, reconstructed every post monsoon: Is this development? Putting pavers for the footpaths is development?
What Goans need to ask is how many Goans, working in the non-mining private sector in Goa, will be able to buy flats in the TATA and GERA housing projects?
How many of them will be able to buy bungalows on newly purchased plots? By contrast, how many from outside Goa will have done so?
How much land will be ‘acquired’ from Goans and how much from the new landholders?
How many Goans will be able to find jobs in the private sector in Goa -- not in fake massage parlours, hinterland guesthouses and underground casinos.
Answers to these questions will tell you the development promised. These elections, we need to bring this to the attention of those who come to seek our votes.
