Don’t turn road into a tourist trap at cost of safety

As a regular commuter on Madani Road, I am writing to express my deep concern about the growing issue of tourist congestion on this route. The road gained popularity after a famous Shah Rukh Khan film was shot here, and now it has become a hotspot for photography enthusiasts, who often prioritise taking pictures over road safety.

This road has recently been developed with amenities like a children’s park, gardens, and rental services for bicycles and two-wheelers, which are meant to attract tourists. However, these facilities are being used as an excuse to turn the road into a tourist spot, compromising road safety.

The lack of presence from traffic police and authorities has exacerbated the issue, creating a hazardous environment for commuters and tourists alike. It’s concerning that the authorities seem to be waiting for a major incident to occur before taking action. The fact that a film was shot on this road doesn’t justify its conversion into a tourist spot. Goa has many other locations where movies have been filmed, but that doesn’t mean they’re open to uncontrolled tourism.

I request that the authorities take immediate action to ensure road safety and enforce traffic regulations. Alternatively, if the intention is to create a public spot, it should be officially designated as such, and necessary measures should be taken to ensure safety.
